It takes a village to raise a child. At Saint Thomas, it takes the love and wisdom of parents, talented and devoted Catholic teachers, and a dedicated parish community to raise an honorable child of the Light.
Father Jim and I welcome families looking to give their children a high quality, Christ-centered education. Families from across Grand Rapids continue to select Saint Thomas, often over their own award-winning school district.
New families often mention that "special something" in our school. This intangible feeling is the synergy created by parents, students and teachers working together in project-based investigative learning. From our first contact with your child in our highly sought after early childhood program and throughout our award winning elementary and middle school programs, we encourage compassion and mentorship between our students. We are well known for developing leaders at Saint Thomas within a targeted leadership program while providing a highly challenging educational experience. These adolescents are proof that our community raises wonderful children!
Not satisfied to nourish students' souls and minds, we also boast a community approach to nourishing the body. Our School Lunch Program partners with local businesses to provide school lunches. This is a win-win for both Saint Thomas and the neighboring community.
We strive to partner with our community to bring other opportunities to our students. Aquinas College, our Catholic college partner to the east, teaches education classes in our school, using our classrooms as first-hand examples of cutting edge instruction. We welcome Aquinas students as student teachers and volunteer tutors. Holland Home, our nursing home partner to the north, is where we provide intergenerational activities for children ages 0-100. We partner with Children's Healing Center, a first-of-its-kind recreational center for kids with weak immune systems. Our neighborhood and the Eastown community are willing and watchful supporters of what we do at Saint Thomas as we develop conscientious and honorable future community leaders.
Please accept my invitation to visit and experience first hand that "something special" at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic School.
Peace in Christ,
Suzi Furtwangler, Principal
