Educational Support Services (ESS)

Inclusive and accessible education is not a place — it is a mindset.

It is a commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of ability, have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive together. Inclusive education practices support students with disabilities by providing specially designed instruction within general education classrooms, allowing them to engage with the same curriculum as their typically developing peers in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Alongside this vision lives the enduring memory of Audrey Lou whose life and presence taught us more than we could have imagined. Her journey inspired the creation of the Educational Support Services Program. It was for her — and for every student who has followed in her footsteps, that this program was established.

The History of Educational Support Services (ESS)

Founded 15 years ago, the Educational Support Services (ESS) Program was created to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities within a Catholic elementary school setting. What began with just two students has grown into a vital part of our school community, fostering inclusion, compassion, and academic success for all. By nurturing the potential of every learner, ESS strengthens not only individual students, but the entire school environment.

  • Established 15 years ago, initially serving two students with identified needs.
  • Currently supports 79 students with a wide range of disabilities.
  • Led by a Director with over 30 years of experience in special education.
  • Staffed by six dedicated instructors, including four certified teachers.
  • Services span Kindergarten through 8th Grade, with instructors assigned to specific grade bands.
  • Each student receives an individualized support plan, tailored to their unique learning profile.

Why We Chose to Become an Inclusive School

We believe that every child is made in the image and likeness of God and is worthy of dignity, respect, and love. This foundational belief calls us to educate all children — regardless of learning differences or abilities.

At the heart of our mission is the understanding that:

  • Each student is a unique learner. We are committed to knowing every child deeply and creating student-centered plans that support their individual goals.
  • A diverse student body promotes tolerance, acceptance, dignity, and respect.
  •  Inclusion nurtures not only academic growth, but the moral and spiritual development of all students.

Inclusion benefits all learners. When students of all abilities learn together, the entire school community grows stronger, more compassionate, and more connected. This is not just a philosophy — it is a daily practice of love, equity, and faith lived out in our classrooms.
